The Shri Sai Satcharita is a sacred text with a difference. An expression of divine Inspiration and Will, which flowed in lucid Marathi from the plume of Hemadpant alias Shri Govind Raghunath Dabholkar, reaches out to us mainly because it speaks to each one of us. More importantly, it contains stories of bhaktas, who lived in the times of Shri Saibaba of Shirdi, of bhaktas who loved Him so much, were so devoted and committed to Him, and were so close to His heart, that their stories cannot be separate from His. The Shri Sai Satcharita is an account of the lives of the bhaktas of Shri Sainath, their bhakti and their path to Him. Contrary to common belief, it is not a commentary on the miracles performed by Baba.
This sacred work gives simple messages, simple enough to be absorbed and yet the kind that cause vital changes in life. And these changes are the miracles brought about by the Sadguru. We come into this world with love and bhakti in our heart and so tending to express these sentiments is in fact, ‘natural’. Bhakti is a way of life and may we understand well, that it is in no way separate from our worldly life. The Sadguru, the Ultimate Principle is Truth, He is Love and He is Joy. We owe the love in our hearts to Him. Loving Him and surrendering unto Him, unto His word, which is the Truth, assures lasting Joy. It is easy to relate to the events, the ups and downs and the crisis in the lives of the bhaktas in this work. However, what we must feel and identify with and experience is their love and bhakti for the Sadguru, the strength that is His Grace and the firm conviction that He is the Ultimate, He is just everything.
